Library Media Center

Mission Statement

The mission of the Colchester Information and Technology Literacy Program is to ensure that students and staff are effective users of ideas and information.  The school Library Media Specialist empowers students to be critical thinkers, enthusiastic readers, skillful researchers and ethical users of information.

Vision

The vision of the Colchester Elementary School Library is that it is a passion-driven, virtual learning commons that offers diverse learning opportunities to promote a love for reading and empower students to ask questions and seek answers about the world around them.

About Us

The Colchester Elementary School Library is located in a beautiful atrium in the center of the school. The glass roof offers enough natural lighting for students and teachers to find just the right book or read a magazine in the large, open space. There are also laptops and iPads available to allow students to search for resources. A computer lab for students and an Internet Café for teachers are located within the library media center.

There are 11,454 titles in the Colchester School Library, and the learning community has access to six highly recommended, age appropriate subscription databases that will help students find the answers to their questions and support student learning both in the classroom and at home.

The Colchester Elementary School library supports the Connecticut Core Standards by integrating the Stripling Model of Inquiry with collaborative lessons and instilling a love for reading through shared reading and book talks.
