March 1,2021

Dear CES Families,

During the month of March we will celebrate Read Across America, or as we like to call it Read Across CES.  Our goal is to spread the joy of reading while creating and celebrating a nation of diverse readers.

What will we be doing as a CES Community to Celebrate Read Across America?

  • Each morning on the morning announcements, Mrs. Amado will highlight diverse authors.  She will read books that focus on empowerment, empathy, and cultural pride. These books give voice to authors and illustrators of color and a variety of cultural backgrounds who are typically underrepresented in the literary world.

  • We will share the book Eliott the Penguin written by one of our own Bacon Academy graduates, Kris Lee.  Ms. Lee has agreed to create a video of herself reading this fun-filled book about the adventures of Eliott the Penguin as he models ways to show kindness to  others in his community.  Our generous PTO will purchase a copy of the book for each of our classrooms.

  • We will have an incredible school-wide virtual assembly presented by one of our favorite Storytellers, Len Cabral, who will be sharing a performance the week of March 1st. The performance will be approximately 30 minutes long. To make Len’s performance more personable for CES students, he’ll answer any questions our Cardinals may want to ask him prior to his taping.Teachers will share his newest Haitian tale prior to March 1st, How the Rabbit Lost its Tail.

  • We’ll begin our week on March 1st @ 8:50-9:10 with a school-wide DROP EVERYTHING and READ after morning announcements.

  • Spirit Week will be held March 1st-5th.  The book and activity for each day are listed below.

March 1st-5th

Each day, Mrs. Amado will feature the book and author listed for the day on the morning message. The authors featured represent a variety of diverse backgrounds. The books will be read aloud during the morning message for the whole school to enjoy together.

Let’s have some fun as we celebrate a nation of diverse readers this month!
