January 29, 2021

Dear Families,

We hope that all families were able to talk with or see loved ones during the holiday, even if it was virtually. We are very excited that 2020 is in the past and we look forward to a positive and productive year and hope we can return to an environment of less social distancing.

We will continue to focus on social/emotional learning and growth for both staff and students. We are grateful to be in a community that values the health and well-being of every individual. With this in mind, we would like to spend the month of January recognizing the members of our community for their heroic efforts during the pandemic.

We will invite our Cardinals to brainstorm the members of the Colchester community that support us and ways we can show our gratitude to them. For example, this may include bus drivers, EMTs, grocery store workers, police officers, firefighters, nurses, doctors, food bank workers, etc.

Our goal is to focus on the positive aspects of our community and put the negative spirit of 2020 in the past. We have all shown how resilient we can be when we work together for the greater good. We will continue to help students build strategies to overcome stress, anxiety, and fears. Our school has been fortunate to have Mrs. Lemke teach us breathing techniques to calm and center ourselves. In January, she will work with her students to have them share the breathing strategies that they have created with the CES community. For example, our first video in the new year that will be shared on morning announcements will be a student sharing his ocean breathing strategy.

As always, we thank you for your continued support and partnership. CES has always been a close community and we strive to continue to build collaborative relationships.

Be well,

Judy O’Meara, Principal
